An old tomato cage gets a new life as a sweet little tiered nest display. Many years ago, I made one of these based on a project from a magazine called Country Business. My wild grapevines have gotten pretty wild so I decided it was time to make a few more.
I harvested the young, thin vines. Years ago I used grapevines my neighbor removed from their yard. When I went to use them, they were brown and stiff. I had to soak them in water to use them and many broke. This time I used them the same day I harvested them.
I retrieved a tomato cage from the greenhouse and gave it a couple light coats of black spray paint.
I removed the leaves from the grapevines.
And then I practiced being a bird... Not as easy as it looks I might say. I started by winding around and around the outside and went in and out of the wires to stabilize. I also criss-crossed the bottom and continued until I liked the look of my nest.
I had to go get more vines to complete the nest on the top. I love the finished project.
It will be great for fall displays. It would also be perfect for my kitchen island with a few pieces of fruit...Oh, the possibilities.... For more, swing by to my blog: http://www.artisticendeavor101.blogspot.com/2015/08/2-tiered-nest-display-from-tomato-cage.html.
