Turn Mismatched Furniture Into a Set!

I recently found myself the owner of a few gummy, icky children's chairs (our church daycare was sending them to the trash). They were in BAD shape, with decades of grime as well as nicks, gouges and scrapes. I rescued them from the trash that day.

When I spotted this sturdy side table at Goodwill, I thought it would make a great activity table (kid-size) to pair with the chairs.

The table was a modern style and different wood than the chairs. As you can see, it had some serious issues on the top, as well as its share of nicks and dings. But I didn't care as I was planning to paint it anyway!

After taping off the top, I proceeded to give the table a couple coats of my favorite diy chalk paint. Once that dried, I painted the table top with chalkboard paint in black.

After a good de-greasing, the chairs were similarly painted in this beach-y blue color.

I married these 3 mismatched pieces into a uniform set by carrying the beach-y blue color to the table...and adding some white stripes on the chairs.

Suddenly they didn't look so bad and unlovable anymore...they became a beautiful set that I'm sure any child would love!
