The third room that we remodeled in our total home renovation was the dining room. Sitting just off the kitchen, it was very outdated, still stuck in 1972, when the 3800 sq. ft. home was originally built. But the room, like the rest of the house, had good bones, and wonderful character. The dining room had gorgeous parquet wood floors, a built in hutch { I'm a sucker for a built in cabinet!} a brick wall and arched brick doorway going into the living room, and a stunning, large, arched stained glass window.
Hanging in the center of the room was a gorgeous, French chandelier, dripping with crystals, original to the house.
We started by scraping the popcorn ceiling, and we tried every trick known to man to remove the flocked avocado green wallpaper, but it wouldn't come off without taking sheet rock with it. So we planked the walls, over the wallpaper, and then painted in a light gray.
All the trim and woodwork was painted white to lighten the space.
The brick walls were given a fresh coat of white paint and the built in hutch was painted and waxed in a beautiful dark gray, the inside in a lighter blue.
The architectural details are what set this room apart and the lighter pallette showcases them now.
The crowning glory of the room is this beautiful stained glass window, original to the house.
All of our vintage and antique furnishings are right at home in the updated vintage space.
