From across the crowded aisles of Goodwill, I could hear this little chair calling to me. "Helllllloooooo - I'm right here! Come and get me! You do not need me, but you want me in your shopping cart," it whispered. I swiftly made my way to it and fell in love when I read its little yellow price tag that said "$2.99." makeoverOf course my new friend, rocking chair, came home with me and sat in the basement, plain and lonely, for a couple of months. Under duress of yet another threat from my husband to "do something with it, or it's gone," I pulled it out one day and gave the top part a coat of pink chalk paint.
Next, I painted the bottom half with white chalk paint. Then I watered some of the white chalk paint down and gave the top, pink part a whitewash finish.
I made a stencil on my electronic cutting machine and painted the name of my friend's new baby on top in gold acrylic paint. Then I waxed the entire piece with a pearlescent wax. Babies love shimmer. (So do I.)
Then I stepped back, admired the makeover, and called it a day.
This was a totally fun project and makes an awesome baby gift! If you aren't so lucky to find a child size rocking chair at a thrift shop, you can definitely find unfinished wood ones at the craft store. If you're interested in more details on this project, a complete supply list (including paints used), and more photos, please visit my blog at the link below. Thanks!
