Stained Glass Lanterns

I feel like the name stained glass lanterns makes this project sound difficult and expensive. However, it is far from either of those. My boys helped me make these and they had fun doing it.

To begin this project, take the picture frame apart. Then throw away the cardboard backing and paper that comes in the frame. Remove the glass from the frames and clean the glass.

For the paint process you will need small containers, food coloring, and clear glue. We also used four different paint brushes to make sure the colors didn't mix. For a detailed description of how we painted the glass, please check out my site.

Cover each piece of glass with the paint mixture. You will see bubbles and that is fine. Let it dry completely overnight.

Before putting them back into the frames, spray them over really good with a few clear coats of Triple Thick Glaze or something similar. While you wait for the glass to dry, glue your frames together to create your box.

You can either glue the glass back into the frames or use the metal tabs to hold the glass in place. It is that easy and now you have a beautiful piece of art for your garden.
