A Quick & Easy Cheap DIY Cornhole Set!

Aka: How Not to Cheat Your Husband.

So my husband casually volunteers me to build us a bags (cornhole) set for our block party. Considering how competitive we used to be playing each other, I had to be extra careful and accurate building it lest I get tagged a cheater.

It's quite easy and quick to do. There are a bazillion tutorials out there for sure, a few linked on my blog for you for further assistance, so be sure to come visit at humboldtartdept.blogspot.com. I used pre-cut 2' x 4' x 1/2" plywood, 1x4 for the sides, and 2x4 for the legs.

Build your frame with 2 pieces at 4', 2 at 22.5". Don't forget to pilot drill your screw holes and use glue.

Toss on your plywood -- definitely use a countersink drill bit here as the face needs to be baby butt smooth.

Draw out your 6" diameter hole at 12" from the side, 9" from the top. Cut out with a jigsaw.

The legs were tricky for me. I clamped a 14" piece of 2x into a corner, drilled a 5/16" hole on center of the 2x, marked the correct angled trim line after raising the platform up to 12" (the face is at 12"), rounded the tops of the legs so they'd fold completely up (or almost), and assembled with a 5/16" carriage bolt, washer and wing nut.

Putty the holes, have your assistant check your work. When dry, sand the whole face, the cut out hole edges, and ease the plywood edges.

Paint as you see fit and seal with water based polyurethane.

Dig up some heavy weight fabric and create 6" square bags. Cut pieces at 7", allow a half inch seam allowance, stitch, fill with 16 oz. of beans, stitch them up and it's game time! Be sure to visit my blog, Flipping the Flip, by clicking the link below for more details and a link to the rules!
